Mr. Jones started working after school and during summer breaks at age 16 in the field learning hands on techniques in commercial construction. Buck then went on to study at Essex Community College with a major in Business. After college, he went on to work at Bethlehem Steel, becoming one of the youngest persons to obtain an “A” millwright status
and went on to become one of the youngest foremen at Sparrows Point. With work on and off at Bethlehem Steel, he started his own remodeling company. Buck eventually left Bethelehem Steel to focus on his business and pursue becoming incorporated. In August of 1985 FreeState General Contractors became incorporated. FreeState started by constructing additions, went on to constructing single family homes in several communities on various lots in Baltimore County. In time work progressed to renovations of a large apartment complex, constructing restaurants, yacht clubs, medical facilities and more. Buck still gets excited over every project and personally tries to start each project himself. To stay up to speed with this ever changing business, he regularly attends seminars pertaining to the business. Buck is a member of the Better Business Bureau, Essex Chamber of Commerce, Back River Community organization and the Holly Neck Conservation organization.
William ( Skip ) Storm, Project Manager / CADD Designer
Mr. Storm started with FreeState in June of 1993 as a supervisor. He was promoted to project
manager in September 2000. Skip is a fourth generation carpenter with a background in
architecture. Skip started working for his father’s remodeling company after school and during summer break at the age of 14. After he graduated high school, he began working there full time while attending night school to become certified in Architectural Drafting.
He brings 27 years of construction experience to FreeState General Contractors. By taking
continuing education courses pertaining to the construction industry, Skip keeps current on
changes. He is a member of the National Association of Certified Home Inspectors and the National Society of Home Inspectors.
Laura George, Assistant Project Manager / Administrative Assistant
Ms. George has been with the FreeState team since August 1997. Laura attended Catonsville Community College majoring in business. She brought 15 years prior experience in banking, mortgage financing and real estate sales and business management to our team. Laura assists our clients with selecting exterior and interior designs, coordinates project scheduling and purchasing of materials. In addition, Laura assists Mr. Jones with business operations.
Charles ( Chuck ) Jones, Superintendent
As the owner’s eldest son, Mr. Jones began with FreeState in June 1991. In May 2002, he became FreeState’s Superintendent after graduating from Towson University with a Bachelors Degree in Business management. Chuck brings to the team over 16 years experience in the construction field and over 10 years experience in management. He is currently overseeing daily activities for the company.
Deborah Klein, Office Manager / HR / Bookkeeping
Mrs. Klein joined the FreeState team in July 1993. She has over 17 years experience in commercial and residential general contracting. Debbie has been appointed as a Notary Public of the state of Maryland since November 1, 1999. Debbie is responsible for all employee relations, organizing company social events and all aspects of accounting.
Jesse Nantz, Draftsman / Designer
Mr. Nantz graduated from Eastern Technical High School where he majored in drafting and architecture. He is a veteran of the U. S. Navy. Jesse started with FreeState in November 2005. He has previous experience in all phases of construction and computer operations.
Ashley Cox, Customer Service
Miss. Cox has been with FreeState since October 2003. Ashley keeps the clients updated on their job status and helps them to understand the building process. Ashley tracks the permits through the different agencies, assists with scheduling and ordering of materials. She also assists the management team where needed.
